The group

Founded in 1989, the Octopodes is Johns Hopkins University’s premier co-ed a cappella group, bringing their blue-clad energy everywhere they go! Over the last 25 years, the Octopodes have found success both on-stage and in the studio, with multiple appearances in the Semi-Finals of ICCA and numerous awards and accolades for their studio albums.

Recently, the Octopodes’ tracks have been featured on BOCA (Best of Collegiate A Cappella) and Voices Only compilations, and their ground-breaking all-original album titled The Kraken won the 2015 CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award) award for Best Mixed Collegiate Album along with a runner-up recognition for Best Original Song by a Scholastic Group and nominations for Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Mixed Collegiate Solo.

Along with competing and recording, the Octopodes take time to perform concerts on the JHU campus, collaborate with nearby groups, attend a cappella festivals, and excite outside audiences at off-campus gigs and performances. Wherever they go and whatever they do, the Octopodes are always sure to follow the four D’s: diction, dynamics, derformance, and dafterparty!
